If you are choosing accounting software for a UAE business in 2026, two names that keep coming up are Zoho Books and Xrero — but they are not the same kind of product. Zoho Books is a mature, polished cloud accounting application with one of the strongest VAT stories on the market. Xrero is an all-in-one cloud ERP built in Dubai that puts accounting, point of sale, inventory, HR and WPS payroll in a single bilingual system.
This comparison is written by the Xrero team, so read it knowing where we stand. In return, we have kept it honest: every Zoho Books price below was verified on Zoho's own UAE pricing page in June 2026, in dirhams, and we clearly label vendor claims as claims. Where Zoho Books is the better choice, we say so plainly — and there are several cases where it is.
One note before we begin: Xrero is an independent UAE company, not affiliated with Xero Limited. If you were actually searching for the similarly named New Zealand product, our separate Xrero vs Xero comparison covers that.
Key takeaway: if pure bookkeeping is all you need, Zoho Books is the cheaper tool — it has a genuinely free plan and paid plans from AED 60–69 per month. Xrero costs AED 99 per user/month plus a one-time setup fee, but it replaces a whole software stack: accounting, POS, inventory, HR, WPS payroll and post-dated cheque management in one bilingual EN/AR system. Choose based on how much of your business you want one system to run.

Pricing in 2026: dirham for dirham
What Zoho Books costs in the UAE
These prices were verified directly on Zoho's UAE pricing page in June 2026 and are billed per organisation, per month:
| Zoho Books plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually (per month) |
|---|---|---|
| Free | AED 0 | AED 0 |
| Standard | AED 69 | AED 60 |
| Professional | AED 129 | AED 90 |
| Premium | AED 159 | AED 120 |
| Elite | AED 349 | AED 280 |
| Ultimate | AED 799 | AED 660 |
Extra capacity is sold as add-ons: additional users at AED 10 per user/month (AED 8 on annual billing), receipt autoscans at AED 36 per 50 scans/month, extra locations at AED 44 per location/month, an employees add-on at AED 13 per employee/month, expense claims at AED 33 per user/month and BillPay at AED 159/month. VAT returns and audit reports are available from the Standard plan upwards. The entry price is genuinely low — just budget for the add-ons your team will actually need.
What Xrero costs
Xrero keeps pricing to one number: AED 99 per user/month with every module included — accounting, invoicing, CRM, sales, purchasing, inventory, POS, HR, manufacturing and more. There is also a one-time implementation fee of AED 2,999–24,990 depending on edition, which covers configuring the system for the UAE. To be fully transparent: Xrero is not free. The only free part is the 15-day trial, which needs no credit card. Full details are on the pricing page.
The honest math
If one or two people simply keep the books, Zoho Books wins on price, full stop: AED 0 on the Free plan or AED 69/month on Standard, against AED 198/month for two Xrero users plus a setup fee. No fair reading of the numbers changes that.
The math flips when accounting is only one of the systems you pay for. A trading company with a shop, a warehouse and ten employees typically runs accounting software, a POS, an inventory tool and a payroll system side by side. On Xrero, three users cost AED 297/month and all of those functions are already inside. Whether that beats your current stack depends on what your other subscriptions cost — add up your real bills and compare.
Scope: an accounting app versus a full ERP
What Zoho Books does brilliantly
Zoho Books is excellent at being exactly what it says it is: everyday invoicing and bookkeeping through to VAT returns and audit reports (available from the Standard plan), with a corporate tax module also offered, all in a fast and refined interface. For a service business or a small trader whose operations live elsewhere, it is one of the best-value accounting tools available in the UAE.
What Xrero bundles in
Xrero is an ERP, so accounting sits next to operations: retail and restaurant POS with offline mode and a kitchen display, warehouse and inventory, HR with attendance, leave, recruitment and expenses, manufacturing, subscriptions, rental and real estate management, school management for UAE curricula, events, e-signatures and an eCommerce website builder. A built-in AI assistant works in English and Arabic, answers business questions and drafts invoices and quotations, and a website and WhatsApp chatbot handles customer queries. If that breadth is what you are weighing, see our overview of ERP software in the UAE.
UAE compliance, compared honestly
VAT and corporate tax
Zoho's compliance story is genuinely strong. Its own UAE pages state that Zoho Books is recognised as a Digital Tax Integrator by the Federal Tax Authority and that it lets you file VAT returns directly with the EmaraTax portal, and a corporate tax module is available. Direct filing from inside the software, as claimed, is a real differentiator — if it matters to your workflow, verify the current status with the FTA and weigh it seriously.
Xrero approaches the same obligations differently: it generates the FTA-format VAT-201 return as PDF and XML ready for submission on EmaraTax, computes the 9% Corporate Tax, exports the FTA Audit File (FAF) for audits and locks invoice sequences against tampering. We make no accreditation claim. In practice, many finance teams prefer to review a return before it goes anywhere — see how accountants work with Xrero.
Payroll, WPS and post-dated cheques
This is where the two products stop being comparable. Xrero ships full UAE payroll: WPS 2.0 SIF bank files with amounts in fils and the correct routing and remark codes, end-of-service gratuity including death and disability cases, ILOE tracking, Ramadan working hours and 14-day end-of-service deadline reminders. It also manages post-dated cheques (PDC) — still a daily reality in UAE business — and imports bank statements and produces bulk payment files for ENBD, ADCB, FAB and Mashreq. Details at WPS payroll software for the UAE.
WPS payroll is not advertised on Zoho Books' UAE pricing page — verify directly with Zoho; businesses that choose it typically pair it with separate payroll software. In fairness, if you have no employees on UAE payroll and never touch post-dated cheques, this whole section costs Zoho nothing.
Arabic depth and the ecosystem question
How deep does the Arabic go?
Zoho's UAE pages claim bilingual English/Arabic invoicing, which covers the document your customer actually sees. Xrero goes further: the entire interface is bilingual English/Arabic with proper right-to-left layout, invoices are issued in both languages, and the AI assistant answers in Arabic. If your accountant, storekeeper or HR officer works in Arabic all day, that difference is decisive; if your whole team works in English, it matters far less.
Zoho's app ecosystem is a real strength
Credit where due: Zoho's broad suite of integrated applications is one of the most complete in the industry. If your company already runs on Zoho apps, choosing Zoho Books is the path of least resistance and the integrations cost you almost no effort. Xrero's answer is architectural rather than competitive: the equivalent functions are modules in one database, so there are no integrations to maintain, one login and one bill. These are two different philosophies — best-of-suite versus one-system — and both are legitimate.
Who should choose what
Choose Zoho Books if…
- You need accounting and bookkeeping only, with operations handled elsewhere.
- You are on the tightest possible budget — the Free plan and the AED 60–69 Standard plan are hard to argue with.
- Your business already runs on Zoho applications and you want everything in one ecosystem.
- Vendor-claimed direct EmaraTax filing is a priority for your VAT workflow.
- You have no UAE payroll and no post-dated cheques to manage.
Choose Xrero if…
- You want one system for operations and accounting — POS, inventory, HR and finance in one place.
- You run UAE payroll and need WPS 2.0 SIF files, gratuity and ILOE handled natively.
- Post-dated cheques are part of how your business actually trades.
- Your team needs a fully bilingual EN/AR interface and Arabic invoices, not just translated documents.
- You would rather have guided UAE setup than configure everything yourself — book a demo and judge it live.
